Berkus, Skaist and Parsons: The Relevance of Venture Capital

Dave Berkus makes his 21st appearance on the Show, joining Stradling’s Mark Skaist and Transcepta’s Ray Parsons

Dave Berkus describes the “Renaissance” that’s happening in venture capital right now. Is this a good thing? Or a pretty predictable precursor of another bubble?
Today we cover what I recently proposed as the Five Keys to Success for Entrepreneurs. Each year I’m invited to speak at UCIrvine to the students enrolled in Goran Matijasevic’s class: Entrepreneurship for Scientists and Engineers. These students see themselves as future successful entrepreneurs and, due to their scientific backgrounds, they were mortified last year when the answer to one of their questions was: luck. Surely success as an entrepreneur involves predictable steps, yes? Well, here’s how I broke it down for them:
- Hard work
- Treat people right
- Luck
- Good timing (luck in the 4th dimension)
- Don’t take venture capital
Stradling Yocca‘s Mark Skaist and Transcepta‘s Ray Parsons join me and Dave as we discuss the relevance of venture capital.
